Mervyn Peake (1911-1968) was a novelist, playwright, painter, poet, short story writer, designer and war artist. His best known works include the Gormenghast trilogy and his illustrations to The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Alice in Wonderland and The Hunting of the Snark.
